EAS is open 6 days a
week, for 5 hours each day. It’s run by 2.5 employees, with the help of about
32 volunteers. At just over
2,200-square-feet, the shelter houses up to 30 animals in 16 dog kennels and 14
cat cages. Three outdoor exercise pens
give dogs and potential adopters a place to get acquainted. Volunteers walk and
play with dogs in the large field behind the shelter.
In 2006, the animal shelter:
·
Impounded 1,156 animals (536 of those
came from city areas, 92 from other city areas in
Kittitas County, 508 from county
locations and
20 came to us from other counties)
·
Adopted out 271 animals to new homes
·
Reunited 173 lost animals with their
owners
·
Transferred 586 animals to rescue
groups
·
Euthanized 96 animals down from 981
in 2004
(Thanks in large part to the
combined help of
Rescues and volunteers).
·
Sold 1,011 dog and cat licenses
